Best AWS SysOps Administrator practice tests in 2026 (an honest comparison)

CrushCert · Updated July 2026 · ~7 min read

The short version: Tutorials Dojo (Jon Bonso) has the community-favorite practice exams for the current exam, Stephane Maarek's Udemy course (updated for the current version) is a strong way to learn the material, and CrushCert adds adaptive practice plus hands-on labs. This is the toughest of the three AWS Associate exams for most people, so plan on more than one question source.

Name change you should know about: AWS retired the SOA-C02 exam on September 29, 2025. Its replacement, SOA-C03, launched September 30, 2025 under a new name — AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer – Associate. Most of the market (and search results) still calls this "AWS SysOps," so we use both names here, but SOA-C03 is the current exam you'll actually register for.

We build AWS prep ourselves, so weigh our own entry accordingly — the rest is an honest rundown of what the AWS community actually uses for the SysOps Administrator / CloudOps Engineer Associate (SOA-C03) exam, and who each option is genuinely best for.

What SOA-C03 actually is: 65 questions in 130 minutes (50 scored, 15 unscored), scored 100–1000 with a 720 pass mark, costing $150. It's entirely multiple-choice and multiple-response — AWS removed the interactive exam labs back in March 2023 and they never returned, including under the SOA-C03 rebrand. Compared to the old SOA-C02 content, SOA-C03 adds containers (ECS/EKS) explicitly to scope and leans harder into multi-account, multi-Region operations and automation/infrastructure as code.
The pattern that works: learn the operational services from a course, then stress-test with a separate, scenario-heavy question bank. SOA-C03 loves "what's the root cause and the right operational fix" scenarios, so seeing the same trade-off tested with different wording is what makes the judgment stick.

1. Tutorials Dojo

BEST PRACTICE EXAMSJon Bonso's Tutorials Dojo practice exams are the community go-to and have been updated for the current SOA-C03 content — timed, review, and section-based modes with genuinely thorough explanations. Like their other AWS sets, they tend to run a little harder than the real exam, so a steady mid-80s here is a reassuring signal. They typically run about $15–30.

Best for: final-stage, realistic practice before test day. Trade-off: it's a question bank, not a course — pair it with something that teaches the operational services first if you're newer to day-to-day AWS operations.

2. Stephane Maarek (Udemy)

BEST COURSEMaarek's "Ultimate AWS Certified SysOps Administrator" course has been updated to cover the current SOA-C03 / CloudOps Engineer content — monitoring, deployment, automation, and cost/performance optimization, with a companion practice-test set. Both are often around $15–20 each on sale.

Best for: learning the operations-focused services properly before drilling. Trade-off: the course and tests are sold separately — budget for both, and many people still add Tutorials Dojo on top for extra reps.

3. Whizlabs

BUDGET VOLUMEWhizlabs offers a large pool of SysOps/CloudOps practice questions and section quizzes at a low price. Quality is a notch below Dojo and Maarek and some content lags behind the SOA-C03 update, so double-check anything that references the old exam labs — they no longer exist.

Best for: extra low-cost question volume. Trade-off: uneven explanations and slower updates — verify anything that surprises you against the current AWS exam guide.

4. CrushCert

LABS + ADAPTIVEThat's us. CrushCert pairs an adaptive SysOps/CloudOps question bank with hands-on AWS labs and full timed mock exams, plus a readiness score that tells you when you're actually ready — from $10/month, with a 7-day free trial. The adaptive engine keeps surfacing your weakest operational domain instead of what you already know. Here's CrushCert's AWS SysOps prep.

Best for: adaptive practice plus hands-on reps in one place, especially useful now that the exam no longer includes interactive labs of its own. Trade-off: we're newer than the names above, and a subscription suits ongoing study more than a one-time cram.

5. Official AWS Skill Builder

AWS's own Skill Builder includes a free official practice question set and the current exam-prep plan, plus a paid Official Practice Exam. It's authoritative and reflects the current SOA-C03 content, but the free question volume is limited — a good sanity check, not a full practice bank.

Avoid "brain dumps." Sites selling leaked real exam questions violate the AWS Certification agreement and NDA and can cost you your certification. Stick to legitimate practice with explanations.

Our honest recommendation

Learn the operational services with Stephane Maarek. Drill your weak domains with an adaptive bank plus hands-on labs (where CrushCert fits) — this matters more here than on other AWS Associates since the exam itself no longer includes hands-on labs. Then stress-test with Tutorials Dojo until you're consistently in the mid-80s on fresh, timed exams. Many candidates take this after Solutions Architect — see our best Solutions Architect practice tests comparison, or read how long SOA-C03 actually takes to study next.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AWS SysOps Administrator practice test?

Tutorials Dojo (Jon Bonso) has the community-favorite SOA-C03 practice exams, Stephane Maarek's Udemy course (updated for the current exam) is a strong way to learn the material, and tools like CrushCert add adaptive practice plus hands-on labs. Most people who pass combine a course with a separate, tougher question bank.

Is the AWS SysOps Administrator exam still called SOA-C02?

No. AWS retired SOA-C02 on September 29, 2025 and replaced it with SOA-C03, under the new name AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer – Associate, effective September 30, 2025. The format is nearly identical (65 questions, 130 minutes, 720/1000 pass mark, $150), but containers and multi-account operations are now explicitly in scope.

Does the SysOps / CloudOps Engineer exam still include hands-on exam labs?

No. AWS removed the interactive exam labs from the SysOps Administrator exam in March 2023, and they did not return with SOA-C03. The current exam is entirely multiple-choice and multiple-response questions.

Are AWS brain dumps safe to use for SOA-C03?

No. Brain dumps (leaked real exam questions) violate the AWS Certification agreement and NDA and can get your certification revoked. Use legitimate practice tests with explanations instead.
